The Larger Picture Of Weight Loss

By Rey Vetangelo

Many people in our country today are worried about their weight. Most of these people feel that they are too big and that they need to lose weight.

While it may be beneficial for some of these individuals to lose weight, it is not beneficial for them to be worrying about it so much. Sometimes you can worry so much that it interferes with your daily life and routine.

In the same way, diet plans work the same way. One second everyone is drinking a slim fast on the way to work, the next they're talking about Atkinson's. When people commit to these plans, they see weight loss happen. The truth is that many of these exercise programs and diets actually work.

Another common inhibitor to weight loss is genetics. Genetics, contrary to some belief, does play a sizable factor in a person's ability to lose weight.

But if a person does have the genes that make weight loss harder it does not mean that all hope is lost. Striving diligently to lose weight can still promote a healthy and active lifestyle and losing just five percent of body fat can greatly aid the overall health of an individual.

Age also fights against a person's weight loss efforts. The older a person gets the slower their metabolism is able to burn off fat and process food.

People who worry frequently often focus on worst-case scenarios, which is not a good habit to get into. Focusing on worst-case scenarios will most likely cause you to have a negative outlook on life, which will most likely result in an unhappy life. Another belief that people may hold about worrying is that it is indeed negative. They want to get rid of it so badly but no matter how hard they try, it always just seems to stick around.

Some people who have this negative view of worrying worry that their worrying will take over their lives and they will lose all ability to control it. This is a very terrifying thought for a chronic worrier.

On the diet side, a balanced diet will provide two important things for you. One, the diet will give you the right number of nutrients to repair itself after exercise, energize it during exercise, and work at its best day-in and day-out. For another, it will provide you enough energy to exercise more comfortably. You fatigue slower and you find you can do more.

While these inhibitors to weight loss are among the most common for individuals who are striving without success to lose weight, there may still be those who are unable to lose weight due to other factors and who may wish to consider weight loss surgery. Weight loss surgery should be considered as a last measure, but for those who have tried unsuccessfully to lose weight and who need to lose weight to maintain a healthy lifestyle than weight loss surgery may be the right choice to consider.

Diet Plans: Why Corn Is Not Safe

By Saleem Rana

Most people naturally assume that corn is a good diets food, but you should be cautious in adding it to your diet plans.

It's hard to imagine watching a good movie without some buttered pop corn or a great barbeque without corn on the cob, but it may be time to rethink these popular choices.

What a lot of people want to know is...

Does corn have a place in diet plans?

Although it has been estimated that about 60% of crops are genetically modified, this is only a conservative figure and the numbers are much more likely to be higher. The practice was implemented to produce a bigger crop so farmers and national revenues from the agricultural sector were higher. Genetically modified corn could now kill insects that had become resistant to pesticides.

Sweet corn has also been genetically modified (now called Bt-corn) so that it produces a poison which kills harmful insects. This means the farmer no longer needs to fight insects with insecticides.

This may sound like progress--especially from the perspective of the farmer and the national income--but there is a reason to be concerned. The new foods may have long term effects on ruining our health.

Since the long term effects of GMO (genetically modified organism) foods are not known, we are all part of a massive experiments, unwitting guinea pigs. In fact, what little research that has been done on GMO has resulted in some disturbing news. In April 2007, Arpad Pusztai, a researcher from Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen, UK, noted that rats fed on genetically engineered potatoes had intestinal problems.

Doctors frequently deal with patients who have irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive problems. GMO foods may be playing a significant role in this issue.

Assuming that you can get your hands on non-GMO foods, then does corn fit into good diet plans?

How Carbohydrates Affect Weight Loss

The most important thing to be aware of is that your body processes corn as if it were a carbohydrate rather than a vegetable. This means that you should not consider meal with brown rice and corn as a carbohydrate and vegetable meal. Instead, it is more accurate to classify corn as a grain. Thus, a meal with corn should be counted as a meal with a serving of carbohydrates.

How does microwave popcorn help or hinder a healthy diet?

Even organic microwave pop corn is not healthy for you. The bag is lined with the same chemical coating that is used in non-stick cookware and the pop corn contains preservatives.

What about air popped popcorn?

This is the better choice when it comes to pop corn. However, you have to only enjoy this snack occasionally because your body will not lose weight if you consume too much carbohydrates.

I hope this information helps you to make a more informed decision at your next barbeque and at your next movie night with making food choices that fit in with your diet plans. Remember, corn is not off limits by any means, just remember you're looking for the non-GMO varieties and including it as a grain and not a vegetable into your diet plans.
